Description:

A shrub upto 2 m high. Leaves abruptly bipinnate, upto 45 cm long; pinnae 6-12 pairs, upto 7-9 cm long; leaflets oblong, oblique at the base, emarginate at the apex with the midrib produced as a short mucro. Flowers red or golden red. Pod nearly straight, narrow, thin, 5-8 cm long.

Fls.: Hot and rainy seasons. Frts.: Cold season.

Distribution:

 

Native country uncertain, perhaps South America.

Uses:

Fruits rich in tannins; flowers yield a dye. Infusion of the flowers used as a pectoral and febrifuge; bark as an abortifacient. Leaves purgative, tonic, and emmenagogue.
