Alangium is a name of Malabar.

Conservation status:

 

Wild in the campus of Forest Research Institute, Dehra Dun. Also found wild in many places.

Leaves big, orbicular.

Description:

Shrub or small tree. Bark grayish, smooth; young parts pubescent. Leaves simple, 7.5-20 cm long, orbicular to broad oblong, acuminate, distantly angular lobed. Flowers bracteate, white, in axillary compound cymes. Fruit a drupe, 7-10 mm long, ovoid, crowned with persistent calyx limb.

Phenology:

Fls.: March-May. Frts.: July-August.

Distribution:

 

North-west and eastern Himalaya.

Where to see it:

Gate No. 2 side.

Uses:

Wood used for axe-handles and furniture. Leaves lopped for fodder.
